Thom Terrazas, Marketing Director for a group of local Jersey Mike's, got a call from his good friend Vivian Lin.
Vivian gave him a heads up about an initiative she's been supporting called "Help the Heroes", created by Cielo Sports in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. When Thom heard they were looking for a local partner to feed 300 front-line heroes at Poway's Palomar Medical Center, he immediately let Vivian know they could count on him and his team to provide and personally deliver 300 meals.
"Great news, Jersey Mike's is in, and they're donating 300 meals," Vivian told Marcus Preciado, Founder of Cielo Sports.
"Are you serious, 300 meals? That's crazy" Marcus responded with elation and surprise.
"It's pretty crazy, that in this time when local business are really suffering due to the pandemic, that Thom and Jersey Mike's would be willing to do this. I'm overwhelmed with their support and generosity." Marcus expresses.
With the full support of franchise owners (Steve & Jolene Leonard, Fred Downey, and Drew & Kristen Appel), Thom and his crew were celebrated as they arrived with a variety of Jersey Mike's sandwiches for the hungry heroes. Thom and Marcus were joined that day by an amazing group of local San Diego professional athletes to serve the heroes and make sure everyone of them felt loved, encouraged, and appreciated.
Upon arrival, Thom and his team wasted no time in serving meals to the 300 COVID-19 Response Team members. When thanked by Marcus for the contribution, Thom stated, "The medical professionals are doing all the heavy lifting and we are happy to help out those heroes!"
Charlie Joiner (NFL HOF WR), Ruppert Jones (MLB All-Star), Nick Novak (NFL Kicker) Roberto Wallace (NFL WR), and Rick Takahashi (12 Time National Champion Surfer), all were eager to show up and be a part of this unforgettable day.
